Production of Polyploid Wheat by Nitrous Oxide

Abstract

In 1954, Ostergren 1' published a paper on the production of polyploids in Crepes capillaris by N20 treatment. Later, Nygren 2' and Ostergren 3' applied the same treatment to Melandrium and Phalaris, respectively, and obtained polyploids of those plants. The Nygren's result is, particularly, noteworthy because of a very high frequency of polyploids obtained.
