M ALIGNANT melanoma may be identified in three clinical stages. In stage 1, where the primary site alone is involved, the 5-year survival rate with treatment is 53%. In stage 2, where the regional lymph nodes are involved in addition to the primary site, the 5-year survival rate with treatment is 19%. In stage 3, where there is distant metastasis, the 5-year survival rate is less than 1%.4 The following is a report of a stage 3 case with a long-term survival.
