Molecular weight distribution, Molecular weight determination, Oligosaccharides, ABEEderivatization, HPLCSize Exclusion Chromatography (SEC) has been exten-sively used to monitor molecular weight distribution ofpolymer samples. A typical phase of SEC is composed ofuniform-sized porous beads with pores of wide dispersity. Asolute whose size is larger than the largest pore of the phasewill elute first, and a solute whose size is smaller than thesmallest pore of the phase will elute last in SEC. In otherwords, the size factor governs elution order. Larger soluteswill elute faster than smaller solutes. SEC has been used in analysis of polysaccharides, too. Forexample, a review of SEC of cellulose and related poly-saccharides
