Abstract

An alcohol dehydrogenase has been purified from two strains of Drosophila melanogaster. This enzyme has a molecular weight of 4.4 × 104 and shows a broad specificity for secondary alcohols. Crude extracts of flies contain multiple forms of the enzyme. One of these forms has been isolated by ion exchange chromatography.
