In addition to their use in routine hematology, these features have been usefully applied in large-scale screening for thalassemias (1) and macrocytosis (2), and at times as a clue to the presence of cold agglutinins in high titers. Minor problems with the Coulter Model S*have included a small positive error in hemoglobin measurement with high leukocyte counts, probably due to turbidity (3).
