Single crystals of BaTiO 3 were grown from the TiO 2 -rich side of the BaO-TiO 2 system. They were chunky crystal with mainly {111} form. However, these chunky crystals are obtained only under a reduced atmospheric pressure. An oxygen defect seems to have an effect on the crystal morphology. Curie point of the present crystals is about 128°C and is a little higher than that of the BaTiO 3 butterfly crystals. Crystallographic data for the present crystals are a =3.993 Å and c =4.037 Å at room temperature (tetragonal perovskite-type structure).
