The Vertical Motion of Matter in a Prominence Observed on May 7, 1984

Abstract

Abstract The vertical motion of matter in a dark filament observed on May 7, 1984 is studied by measuring the Doppler shift of Hα line. Measured velocities range from — 6.0 kms−1 (upward) to 5.3 kms−1 (downward). It is found that in this stable filament, the downward motion of matter is predominant. However, in three limited portions, matter is flowing upward.
