Integrated gate commutated thyristor based dynamic voltage restorer

Abstract

Voltage sags mitigation in distribution networks plays an important role in the improvement of power supply quality. Dynamic voltage restorers (DVR), when installed between the supply and a critical load feeder, can compensate for voltage sags within 2-3 milliseconds. This paper presents the technical considerations and design techniques of the first integrated gate commutated thyristor (IGCT) based DVR in a voltage sag mitigation application for a sensitive semiconductor manufacturing facility.
