From a cross of 2 early-maturing chickpea [Cicer arietinum] lines, ICCV2 and ICCV93929, a transgressive segregant (ICCV96029) was selected which flowers in ~23 days. Under rainfed conditions at ICRISAT Asia Center, ICCV96029 had early growth vigour and matured in 75-80 days, making it a useful source of earliness and for drought escape in short-cropping environments.
