Abstract

SUMMARY 1. A description of the Kolff‐Brigham artificial kidney is given. 2. The chemical and clinical response to dialysis is described. 3. The results obtained in seventy dialyses on forty‐six patients are presented. 4. The indications for performing a dialysis are outlined. 5. The variation in the metabolic response found in patients with tubular necrosis is stressed, and a classification into mild, moderate, and severe is suggested.
