Ristocetin induces fibrinogen precipitation and platelet aggregation, but its precise mechanism remains unclear, though it can trigger ADP release. The authors examined three patients with Von Willebrand’s disease to assess Ristocetin’s effect. Ristocetin produced aggregation in platelet‑rich plasma from thrombasthenic patients, but only one of three Von Willebrand’s disease patients showed aggregation, suggesting the disease can be divided into two types and that Ristocetin may aid further study.
