Ginsenoside-Ro, -Rb1, -Rb2, -Rc and -Rd, the saponins of Ginseng root (root of Panax ginseng C. A. MEYER) have been isolated. The structures of these saponins have been established as I, II, III, IV, and V, respectively. Ginsenoside-Ro is identical with chikusetsusaponin V, isolated from P. japonicum C. A. MEYER (=P. pseudoginseng var. japonicum HARA) and P. pseudoginseng subsp. himalaicus var. angustifolius, while ginsenoside-Rb1 is identical with saponin-D, isolated from the latter.
