Following the early excellent clinical descriptions by Herrick,2 Levine and Tranter,3 Wearn,4 Gardinier,5 and Hamman,6 the medical profession began to realize that myocardial infarction was neither as rare nor as fatal as it was originally considered.It seemed profitable to review the cases seen in a large general hospital and determine what progress had been made during the past decade in the diagnosis and treatment of acute myocardial infarction.
