Abstract

Rectal hyposensitivity is relatively uncommon in patients with high-grade internal rectal prolapse and obstructed defecation. Internal rectal prolapse may cause obstructed defecation through a mechanical process. It does not appear that rectal hyposensitivity plays a significant part in the pathological process.
