Abstract

FOREGS Geochemical Baseline
\nProgramme (FGBP)
\nThis programme has been initiated to provide high
\nquality environmental geochemical baseline data for
\nEurope. The data will be based on samples of stream
\nwater, stream sediment, floodplain sediment, soil, and
\nhumus collected from all over Europe. High quality
\nand consistency of the obtained data are ensured by
\nusing standardised sampling methods and by treating
\nand analysing all samples in the same laboratories.
\nThe FGBP is authorised by the directors of the
\nGeological Surveys within FOREGS (Forum of European
\nGeological Surveys). The FGBP also represents
\nthe European contribution to the International
\nUnion of Geological Sciences (IUGS)/ International
\nAssociation of Geochemistry and Cosmochemistry
\n(IAGC) Working Group on Global Geochemical
\nBaselines.
\nThe present report contains comprehensive instructions
\nfor sample site selection and sample collection.
\nIn addition, a summary of methods intended
\nfor sample preparation and analysis is included. Detailed
\ndescriptions of analytical methods used in
\nFGBP will appear in a separate report.
