In the aftermath of Chernobyl, many lessons have been learned, but many pertinent questions about radiation risks and protection of the general public have yet to be answered. This book interprets the impact of available data on gastrointestinal uptake and inhalation pathways in infants and young children. It also discusses the metabolism of radionuclides in developing bone, thyroid and other critical organs and covers in detail the transfer of radionuclides from mother to fetus. The overall implications for radiation protection are assessed, new models are discussed, and areas for new research identified.
