Abstract The syntheses of polystyrenes containing iodonium structure were investigated. It was found that phenyl polystyryliodonium bisulfate was quantitatively prepared from polystyrene iodosoacetate and benzene in the presence of conc. sulfuric acid. In a similar way, cross‐linked phenyl‐ and thienyl‐polystyryliodonium salts were synthesized. Anion exchange reaction of phenyl polystyryliodonium bisulfate with sodium bromide and potassium thiocyanate was also studied.
