Abstract The rate R p of polymerization of styrene in bulk, initiated by phenylazotriphenylmethane has been measured at 50 and 60°C. as a funcation of the initiator concentration. There are significant departures from the proportionality between R p and the square root of the initiator concentration, which follows from the conventional kinetic scheme. These departures can be accounted for by postulating termination by primary radicals and the mutual reaction of primary radicals.
