Experiences in Using CORBA for a Multidatabase Implementation.

One way of achieving interoperability among heterogeneous, federated DBMSs is through a multidatabase system which supports a single common data model and a single global query language on top of different types of existing systems. In this paper we describe the use of a CORBA implementation in developing a multidatabase system. We present our design choices and experiences in making various databases CORBA compliant. We have so far registered Oracle7, Sybase and MOOD to CORBA and the current implementation makes it possible to access these databases simultaneously through a generic interface using a global query language based on SQL. 1 Introduction In today's enterprises information is typically distributed among multiple database management systems.
