Abstract Covalently bound polymeric cobalt chelates 5 of Co(salen) type were synthesized by copolymerization of 2‐hydroxy‐5‐vinylbenzaldehyde ( 2 ) with 4‐vinylpyridine and subsequent polymeranalogous reactions. Coordinatively bound polymeric chelates 6 were obtained from Co(salen) and poly(4‐vinylpyridine) or its copolymer with styrene. Dioxygen binding studies (volumetric measurements and ESR spectroscopy) revealed that mononuclear superoxo complexes are formed reversibly.
