Species sensitivity distributions (SSDs) can be used in ecological risk assessment to quantify ecological risk associated with concentrations of pollutants. This chapter proposes the potentially affected fraction (PAF) of species, related to the forward use of SSDs, as a quantative measure of ecological risk to biotic communities
