Abstract

The data argue in favor of efficacy of RBC transfusion after cardiac surgery. RBC transfusion increases systemic Hb and this in turn increases medium-sized vascular density and DO2 in the sublingual microcirculation, independently of systemic hemodynamics and volume status.
