The adrenal gland has been implicated in the pathogenesis of peptic ulcer disease by the development or reactivation of peptic ulcer during the administration of ACTH or the adrenal steroids.1-5 Conversely, patients with adrenal hypofunction (Addison's disease) characteristically present a decrease in gastric acidity and an unusually low incidence of chronic peptic ulcer. It has been postulated that emotional duress and other alarm stimuli may produce acute and chronic peptic ulcer in man by a hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal pathway...Bibliography1.
