Summary Two types of clonal strains have been derived from adrenal tumor cultures. One type is morphologically fibroblastic and does not perform adrenal-specific functions. The 2nd type is epithelial in morphology and is extensively similar in properties to normal adrenal cortex. Epithelial clones have maintained their functional characteristics for over a year in continuous culture. They can undergo reversible variations in functional activities in culture. The epithelial clones are near diploid with a stem line of 39 chromosomes.
