Sufficient data have accumulated to permit recognition of three new enterovirus serotypes: 69, 70, and 71. Enterovirus 69 has not been related to any disease; type 70 is the etiologic agent of acute hemorrhagic conjunctivitis; and type 71 has been associated with cases of meningitis and encephalitis.
