Abstract

A three-fluid hydromagnetic computer code accounting for hydrogen or deuterium atoms, ions, and electrons is modified to include ionization and excitation of carbon and oxygen impurity ions. Results are presented for energy losses from impurity radiation and are compared with macroscopic and thermal kinetic energies of ions and electrons and with magnetic field energies. Although radiation losses exceed kinetic plasma energies at typical impurity concentrations, electron temperatures are only slightly reduced up to first maximum compression.
