Abstract

It is shown that the isomorphism type of a metacyclic <inline-formula content-type="math/mathml"> p p </inline-formula> -group is determined by its group algebra over the field <inline-formula content-type="math/mathml"> F F </inline-formula> of <inline-formula content-type="math/mathml"> p p </inline-formula> elements. This completes work of Bagiński. It is also shown that, if a <inline-formula content-type="math/mathml"> p p </inline-formula> -group <inline-formula content-type="math/mathml"> G G </inline-formula> has a cyclic commutator subgroup <inline-formula content-type="math/mathml"> G ′ G’ </inline-formula> , then the order of the largest cyclic subgroup containing <inline-formula content-type="math/mathml"> G ′ G’ </inline-formula> is determined by <inline-formula content-type="math/mathml"> F G FG </inline-formula> .
