Electrocardiographic studies before and after treatment were performed in 30 children with lead poisoning. It was found that abnormal electrocardiograms were present in 70% of the patients on admission. After completion of therapy, the electrocardiographic findings remained abnormal in only four (13%) of the patients. The abnormalities described most likely represent myocardial damage. It is proposed that a cardiovascular evaluation should be made as a routine procedure in every child with lead poisoning.
