Summary The incorporation of radioactively labeled amino acids into 7S and 19S γ-globulins by human lymph nodes and splenic tissue in vitro has been studied. De novo formation of 7S γ-globulin has been demonstrated in 13 of 26 tissue culture tubes prepared with tissue obtained from 13 normal patients, and in five of nine tubes prepared with tissue obtained from three patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Formation of 19S γ-globulin has been found only in cultures prepared with tissues from patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Attempts to demonstrate the production of serologically active rheumatoid factor have been unsuccessful.
