Nitrogen oxide radicals, NO, play an important role in atmospheric processes from acid rain to tropospheric ozone formation. Several large sources and sinks for NOare known, but as [ Lerdau et al. ][1] discuss in their Perspective, the role of vegetation as a sink or source of NOremains controversial. This is an important problem because NOemission processes must be understood to be able to predict future environmental impacts. [1]: http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/full/289/5488/2291
