The current status of ceramic composite technology for high temperature applications is reviewed. Properties of ceramic fibers commercially available and now under development are presented. High temperature mechanical and oxidative behavior is discussed, using Nicalon-fiber-reinforced oxide matrix composites as an example. Critical technical issues for ultimate application of ceramic composites at elevated temperatures are cited.
