Abstract

Obvious examples of virtually nilpotent spaces are spaces with afinite (or even trivial)fundamental group and nilpotent spaces, but the Klein bottle, for instance, which has neither of these properties, is also virtually nilpotent. Other examples are discussed in Section 2.
