Abstract

Multiple myeloma is a rare plasma cell neoplasm of cats with a non-specific clinical presentation. This report describes four cases of feline multiple myeloma. Three were typical in their presentation, with clinical signs including depression, anorexia and weight loss. The other case was more acute in onset, presenting in respiratory distress due to pleural effusion. Two cats were euthanased following diagnosis without specific treatment and two were given chemotherapy. Neither cat responded to therapy. Immunoelectrophoresis was performed on the serum from three of the cats, which identified them all as immunoglobulin G monoclonal gammopathies.
