Abstract

ExcerptThe clinical features, roentgen appearance and therapeutic management of peptic ulceration of the duodenum represent familiar concepts in contemporary medical practice. The presence of a constant, barium-filled ulcer niche, with or without secondary roentgenologic signs, constitutes evidence for institution of a reasonably well defined program of extended care. On the other hand, alterations may occur in the mucosal pattern of the duodenum, not infrequently accompanied by hypermotility and/or hypersecretion,in the absence of frank ulceration, a radiologic appearance usually referred to as duodenitis.
