Superlattices with a combination of a superconductor and semiconductor have been formed by the periodic stacking of Bi 2 Sr 2 CaCu 2 O 8 and Bi 2 Sr 2 CuO 6 layers. The observed X-ray diffraction patterns of the superlattices are consistent with those calculated from the ideal superstructures. The resistivity-temperature curve of the superlattices containing three unit layers (45 Å) of Bi 2 Sr 2 CaCu 2 O 8 exhibits the same superconducting behavior as that of a Bi 2 Sr 2 CaCu 2 O 8 film, indicating the Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O system has a strong two-dimensional nature.
