Thirty-one out of fifty patients receiving procaine amide were found to develop antinuclear antibodies belonging in most cases to the IgM and IgG classes and to a lesser extent to the IgA class. Specific interaction between these antibodies and a nucleoprotein component could be demonstrated in a large proportion of cases. No relation was found between occurrence of antinuclear antibodies and development of an immune response to procaine amide itself.
