Abstract

This paper studies the scientificity of using thermal activation sludge (TSA) and coal-product: coal gangue (CG) into new gelling geological polymer. The coal gangue was replaced with sludge (<5μm) of 40%, which was calcined at 900°C for 45 minutes has good compressive strength. And the mechanism of the geopolymer was analysised compressive strength tests and microstructure observations using XRD, SEM and FT-IR were performed. Results indicated that the effective composition such as CaO, MgO, and SiO2 of thermally activated sludge as well as the alkaline substances K2O and Na2O provided the polymerization reaction with alkaline environment, which significantly affect both compressive strength and sturcture of geopolymers and act on the dissolution process, as well as on the bonding of the solid particles in the final structure. The results of this study enriched the selection of raw materials of geopolymers, contributed the resource utilization of industrial wastes containing the aluminosilicate phase such as the sludge and waste rock.
