Abstract Two pollen diagrams, one from Gillespies Beach Road near Fox Glacier, west of the Main Divide. and one from Lake Henrietta. east of the Main Divide near Lake Coleridge. illustrate the development of Aranuian (post‐glacial) shrubland and forest vegetation in the two areas. They conform to the general patterns of development already established for central South Island. A radiocarbon date (NZI093; 11700 ± 140 yr B.P. ) from the base of the Gillespics Beach Road site is not in conflict with published dates from Westland.
