Abstract

Abstract Graft copolymerization of wool with methylmethacrylate induced by quinquevalent vanadium (V 5+ ) was studied in sulfuric acid medium. The rate of grafting was determined by varying the concentrations of monomer and vanadium (V) ion, of the temperature, acidity of the medium, nature of wool, different arylic monomers, and reaction medium. The graft yield increases significantly by increasing the monomer concentration, it is also increased by increasing V 5+ concentration, and temperature. The graft yield is considerably influenced by chemical modification prior to grafting. A suitable kinetic scheme has been proposed and the rate equation has been derived.
