Abstract

Summary Cross-immunization trials were done in 71 young cattle with four materials capable of producing papillomas of the skin and fibromas of the vagina. Three of these materials also produced growths in the urinary bladder. One isolate came from a case of chronic enzootic bovine hematuria and three from cases of bovine cutaneous papillomatosis. Formalinized vaccines of the four isolates induced varying degrees of immunity to challenge of the skin, vagina, and urinary bladder. Immunity was most readily demonstrable in the skin and least in the vaginal mucosa. The four isolates appeared immunogenically related but not identical.
