Direct determinations were made of the cell and plasma volumes of organs and tumors; on this basis, the organ and average body hematocrits were calculated. Each organ has a characteristic hematocrit with values diminishing in the following order: spleen, liver and lung, kidney. The blood volume of all tumors examined was much below that of these organs. Experiments indicate that this oligemia of tumors is real and not due to sluggish circulation.
