The Y-Ca solid solution of the “1-2-3” crystal structure with composition Y 1- x Ca 1.1 x Ba 2-0.1 x Cu 3 O y (0< x <2) was prepared. An excess of 10% of Ca ions which occupied Ba sites was necessary for obtaining a single phase. The superconducting transition temperature T c steadily decreases with increasing x , while the change of valence of Cu is not uniform with x from 0 to 0.2. The relationship between T c and the valence of Cu was discussed.
