Nine cases of congenital deficiency of the abdominal musculature with associated genitourinary abnormalities are presented, the literature is reviewed and the pathogenesis and treatment are discussed. It is emphasized that when congenital deficiency of the abdominal muscles is recognized, particularly in a male infant with undescended testes, or when there is a patent urachus, obstructive manifestations in the genitourinary tract must be searched for and corrected at the earliest possible moment. Urinary symptoms in these cases are usually not present.
