The low-frequency performance of a vented-box loudspeaker system is directly related to a small number of easily measured system parameters. This system is a fourthorder (24-dB per octave cutoff) high-pass filter which can be adjusted to have a wide variety of response characteristics. Enclosure losses have a significant effect on system performance and should be taken into account when assessing or adjusting vented-box systems. The efficiency of a vented-box loudspeaker system is shown to be quantitatively related to system frequency response, internal losses, and enclosure size.
