Triterpenes and Lignans from Kigelia africana

Abstract

Chemical investigation of the methanol/dichloromethane(1:1 v/v) extract of the leaves and fruits of Kigelia africana afforded lupeol (1), -sitosterol (2), -Sitosteryl -D-glucoside (3), canophyllol (4), fibrarecisin (5), pomolic acid (6), hydroxy-pomolic acid 7, -friedelinol (8), sesamin (9), and paulownin (10). Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic analysis and identified by comparison of their spectral data with those reported in the literature. Among them, compounds 1 and 5-10 were isolated for the first time from this plant.
