Summary Circulating interferon was shown to protect mice against intracerebral challenge with encephalomyocarditis or vesicular stomatitis viruses, against intraperitoneal challenge with Germiston virus and intradermal infection with vaccinia virus. The possibility that circulating interferon provides similar protection during natural infection, is considered.
