Abstract

Summary Treatment of cells with high concentrations of interferon inhibited their subsequent ability to produce interferon, while treatment with low concentrations facilitated interferon production and caused very early production to take place. This priming effect required cellular metabolic activity; protein synthesis appeared to be necessary. The latter was indicated by the inhibition of priming in cells treated with p-fluorophenylalanine.
