In the U.S., most secondary school teachers of statistics have backgrounds in mathematics with little or no training in statistics, and there is no specific certification in statistics. This is problematic because while statistics is a mathematical science, it differs from mathematics in fundamental ways. Workshops (ranging in length from one to five days) are currently the primary
