At necropsy a widely patent umbilical vein, a small but apparently grossly normal liver, and a large spleen were found. The details of this case were published and elaborated by Cruveilhier.2He believed that the patient was probably suffering from a congenital defect of the umbilical circulation, with atrophy of the liver, probably secondary to this defect. In 1908, Baumgarten3reported the case of a 16 year old boy who...References Additional Bibliography1. PEGOT : Anomalie veineuse, Bull. Soc. anat. de Paris, 1833 in-8, t. vii, pp. 108-109.
