Abstract [Aryl(phenyl)carbene]pentacarbonyl complexes of chromium and tungsten, (CO) 5 M[C(p-C 6 H 4 R)Ph] (M = Cr, R = H and M = W, R = NMe 2 , OMe, Me, H, Br, CF 3 ) react with phenylisoselenocyanate or potassium selenocyanate inserting selenium into the metal-carbene bond to give the first η 1 -bonded bisarylselenoketone(carbonyl) complexes, (CO) 5 M[Se = C(p-C 6 H 4 R)Ph]. The compounds were characterized by analytical and spectroscopic means.
